Just a year after the Milan Quartets were completed, Mozart complete a new set of quartets in Vienna after hearing some of the quartets of Haydn. The String Quartet No. 8 in F Major (K. 168) is the first of these quartets and introduces the four movement structure that the rest of the quartets would follow, with the additional Minuet/Trio movement. The second movement of the quartet includes a quote from the slow movement of Haydn's F Major quartet from his Op. 20 quartets. Listen to a recording from Amazon.com: |
