Theodore Akimenko (Fyodor Yakimenko) lived from 1876-1945 and produced a number of compositions that are not widely played today, but deserve a look. Akimenko was born in Russia, but moved to France, where he permanently settled after the Russian Revolution. Akimenko is most known as Stravinsky's first composition teacher. The Romance for viola and piano (Opus 13) is a short work originally published in 1902. Akimenko show a light romantic style with a lyrical melody over a pulsating accompaniment. |
